You can mix them to your desired strength and I've heard some IM athletes put 700-800 cals in a bike bottle (I could only handle 500-600). As they do, you will likely be limited as to how many calories your body can absorb per hour while running, however, so it will be important for you to get as much as you can during lesser intense activities (biking for IM athletes, or resting for you) before running. Don't forget to also analyze your electrolyte needs. They've got lots of calories, a little protein, are solid enough that it feels like you're eating something, yet squishy enough that they go down without much effort.  Personally I'd stay away from greasy junk foods, but sugary junk foods can be great.
